Fort Worth

Near the end of last month, we had the special privilege of "getting away" for a few days. We packed up the babies and drove to Ft. Worth where we got to visit several ol' friends and attended Sunday services at our former church. It was a very pleasant and refreshing weekend. Our dear friends Ted and Frances let us lodge with them, and they extended such warm and generous hospitality to us while we were there. And the kids loved playing with their sweet doggies--a poodle and a cocker spaniel. :)

At one point during the weekend, we experienced a small "scare" though; thankfully everything turned out all right. We were enjoying a visit with our friends the Marstallers one evening. They have two young kittens which, of course, were an instant hit with "Banana" and "Papaya" and "Lil' Prince." They each played with and petted and carried around the sweet, docile things. This went on for about 30-40 minutes, and we thought nothing of it until I noticed "Banana" rubbing her eye. About that same time she started complaining of feeling itchy. Well, within just a minute or two, her face started swelling and little welts were appearing around her eyes and nose. I took her to the bathroom to wash, but that didn't seem to help anything and she cried about her eye hurting. We tried, for a few minutes, to just "wait it out," but upon a closer look at her left eye, we became somewhat alarmed. I don't know exactly how to describe it...I've never seen anything like this before...but the actual eyeball itself was swollen and looked much like a half-cooked egg. The white of her eye was watery and jello-y. It was the strangest thing. We immediately called a good friend who is a pediatrician in El Paso, and he (who didn't seem alarmed at the description) just recommended giving her Benadryl to stop the allergic reaction. We bought some, gave it to her, and she experienced some relief. The medicine seemed to at least stop it from getting worse, though her eye wasn't really back to "normal" until the next day. And she was still "puffy" for a day or two...she looked to us a lot like a "little chinese girl." :) We are so grateful and thank the Lord that the whole thing wasn't more serious! We've often told the girls that if/when we move to a bigger home, maybe we will get a cat....well, we're thinking that may not be such a good idea now after all.
