Garden Update

As you may recall, we planted our first garden one month ago. Seeds were put in the soil, and now look what we have...

...our lone PUMPKIN plant...

No CARROTS are showing yet, but I've been told that they take a bit longer to grow. We are really enjoying this whole garden thing. The kids enjoy scoping it out each day to see any new changes.

I have become more amazed at the miracle of life... all we really did was put a few small seeds in the ground, in a sunny spot, and add some water, and...voila!...there are now these amazing, healthy, green plants growing in their place! They each have their own unique make-up and structure. And very soon (we hope) they will be bearing nutritious vegetables to eat! Only God can do that!

Watching and being involved in this natural process has also made me think more about the spiritual means of new birth/growth. Put simply, our responsibility is to sow the seed (preach the Word), pour plenty of Son-shine and Living Water (Jesus, Jesus, Jesus), and then wait for God to bring forth life and good fruit. Though gardening (both in the physical sense and in the spiritual) can potentially involve some very toilsome work for a person, overall, really it is nothing when compared with the miracle of life that only God can perform. God alone brings forth LIFE. Gardeners WILL receive a reward for their labor, but GOD is really the One who deserves the glory. Paul iterates this in his first letter to the Corinthain church: "So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase." (3:7) Glory to God for His life-giving miracles! (in plants, and especially in people!)
